What is a Niche and why you are not making money
This is based on experiment.
When I started blogging, music and entertainment was the only niche I know,
I don’t even know what a niche was . I made small money here and there but there are sharks like 9ja flavor & Naijaloaded that made my efforts looks like child’s play with their stats .
I’d tell you how i left blogging because I can’t keep telling myself one day I’ll be like them but I’ll cut the story for another day.
WHAT IS A NICHE ? ?
This is a major category of what you want to write about . Could be entertainment, news , science and technology, Religion etc.
Many bloggers are not making money because they are in the wrong niche or are in highly competitive niche.
Firstly, wrong niche in the sense that you chose a niche that you probably don’t know much or even passionate about.
Secondly, highly competitive niche is you starting a music blog in this country knowing fully well there’re thousands of them already.
You can keep telling yourself you’ll get to the top but after 5-7 years and your adsense balance is not even up to the threshold your eyes will open .
Now listen very well , there’s something called a SUB-NICHE.
This is a niche that is under a major niche. For example, you can key into Entertainment niche as a major but focus mainly on the Artists lifestyle nothing like music downloads etc.
Sub-niche are very resourceful and less competitive and the key is for you to find a suitable sub niche to focus on.
It will surprise you what People are searching online !!
My blogger friend from the U.S asked me what topic I know very well that when i wake up from sleep I’ll be able to explain vividly and I told her I know about Cows and livestock.
She Said rather than writing about cows and livestock which many people are already doing. I should fine a sub-niche like writing about cow dungs 💩 and things like ” how to train a cow.
I get it, its funny and seems useless but like I always say , ” IT WILL SHOCK YOU WHAT PEOPLE SEARCH ON THE INTERNET ”
I Quickly wrote an article on the topic
” How to cook with cow poop ”
” Can humans eat cow poop ”
” can chickens become dragons ”
SEO put the blog on first page and I got over 800 page views in three weeks. It worked like magic. This was about 6 months ago. I could only imagined the numbers by now. I no longer write for the blog’s owner.
The bottom line is , once you fine a niche , make research and discover new sub-niche . Imagine what people could search for and provide answers. Trust me , Google is all about providing value . They don’t care what it is , as long as someone search for answers and your blog has it , they will show it to the searcher.
Do you know you could based your entire blog on one movie or series? Take for example Movies like Alchemy of souls, game of thrones, vikings etc and all you have to do is to just explain what happened in different scenes .
People will search “why Ragnar faught with his queen ” etc .
I’m not saying you should change niche. I’m saying you should explore other areas in your niche.
So as you begin your blogging journey, put this at the back, front and side of you mind.
